The Hollies Convention - Corn Exchange, Brighton - 7 March 1998
We didnt know what to expect at the Brighton Hollies convention.
We walked into the Corn Exchange to see tables laid with white table clothes and
condiments and a large buffet table down the centre of the room. There was tea and
coffee provided all afternoon.
A video machine was already running in one corner of the room showing clips from tv shows and promotion tapes of The Hollies, Allan Clarke and Broken English.
Rob Haywood had connected his computer to the internet so we could look at The Hollies
pages. There were cds and
tapes for sale and many friends to chat to.
We were served a lovely buffet with wine and beer and when the remains of the food had been cleared away the group made a very quiet entrance.
They were greeted with applause and then overwhelmed with fans who had brought lots of
items for signing.

Many photographs were taken as souvenirs of the occasion and perhaps we will see these at
some of the concerts around
the country.
At the end of the session the group stood together with Sheila Bowen for an official
photograph.
After the group left to do the sound check Chris and Sheila auctioned a guitar case and harmonica which Allan Clarke had donated. The auction realised over £300 which was donated to charity.
The convention finished about 6 00 pm with the prospect of a show to look forward to.
The whole afternoon was a very successful venture enjoyed enormously by the fans and
hopefully the event will be repeated.
